This plant produces extremely attractive racemes of pink to magenta flowers. It occurs in a very wide range of habitats. While this species can aggressively spread via rhizomes, it also cannot tolerate taller/more robust competition and can quickly disappear. The common name references its propensity to suddenly appear en masse following wildfires.
