Listed as special concern in Michigan. Occurs in two rather distinct habitats in Michigan: Oak Savanna or Fen. Nearly extinct in Savanna habitats in Michigan, holding on in Fens. Exquisite magenta shade of flowers. Does not spread by rhizomes like Common Milkweed. Attracts the typical plethora of Milkweed pollinators and herbivores. Tends to go dormant earlier than other Milkweeds, particularly in drier habitats.
